Omaggio a Carol

Omaggio a Carol

1997 – Legno, dagherrotipo, gomme da bicicletta.
Dimensioni: cm. 50x34x5

For Carol

1997 – Wood, daguerrotype, bycicle tyres.
Dimensions: cm 50x34x5

Carol Rama worked on already printed papers: she would overturn them to paint and operate on them. Having in mind her tecnique, I created a matrix on wich I engraved one of her drawings “L’Appassionata” (1940) overturned by 180 degrees. I used it as a silvery base to execute a daguerrotype with her portrait, plugged in a piece of overturned furniture to recall once again her tecnique of “overturning”. Above the whole of it a thin thread from which a ball of rubber rings hangs, cut up from a bycicle tyre. The ball was found in a old family drawer. Back then rubber bands were not bought, one would cut them up, slicing them from pierced bycicle tyres. I owe the idea of the small rubber ball to the most famous hanging bycicle tyres Carol created in the 70’s.
